ADAMS — The Rebels are starting to learn to win again.

After losing 10 straight games, the Rebels beat Wabasha-Kellogg Friday and they picked up a second straight win when they knocked off Lewiston-Altura (6-15 overall, 3-12 Three Rivers) 66-62 in Adams Monday.

Southland (7-14 overall, 5-10 Three Rivers) did it with defense as they held LA’s top scorer Cullin Neeck to 15 points. Neeck had been averaging 25 points per game this season.

“Last year he hurt us both games and even as a freshman he did too. We knew he was a special player,” Southland head coach Matt Webber said. “We talked about if we held him to 15 or less, then we had a good chance to win. That was our goal.”

The Rebels took a 62-59 lead late when Josh Anderson got free for a lay-up and they put the game away at the free throw line. Neeck fouled out with 5:09 left in the game.

“We played really tight on him and didn’t let him shoot threes,” Southland sophomore guard Chris Webber said. “Obviously he got some, but we played really tight and didn’t let him do anything.”

Chris finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. He said he is starting to learn to slow down and cut back on the fouls and he said the Rebels had to do the same thing when they closed out Monday’s win.

“We were just playing too fast. We just had to settle down and run the offense,” Chris said.
