Best Bets: Enjoy indoor fun

With bitter cold and and light snow ahead, this weekend is a time to sit back, relax and enjoy some great entertainment. From a local student play to live music, and a few great meals, there’s no need to build a snowman with the indoor fun.

1. Throwback Thursday: ‘The Mighty Ducks’

“The Mighty Ducks” will be shown at the Historic Paramount Theatre Thursday. The movie follows a self-centered lawyer sentenced to community service coaching a rag-tag youth hockey team. Tickets are $5. For more information, call 507-434-0934.

2. ‘Peter Pan’

7 to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Ellis Middle School auditorium

Fly away to Neverland with the students at Ellis Middle School during this timeless classic. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.

3. Winter luncheon and entertainment

12 to 1 p.m., Friday, Mower County Senior Center

Come in from the cold for some hot soup and a sandwich with entertainment by Jonny Bird, the Man of Many Hats. The event will feature music from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Dean Martin, along with country legends like Marty Robbins, Charlie Pride, Waylon Jennings and more. Cost is $5 per person with a choice of chili or chicken and gnocchi soup, plus choice of a turkey bacon wrap or chicken salad on a fresh croissant. 4. Music at the Bank: Jesse Smith

7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Austin ArtWorks Center

5. Vintage sled fun run

11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Rose Creek Fire Hall and Adams American Legion

The Rose Creek Fire Department will host a vintage sled fun run Feb. 22 for Paint the Town Pink. Registration will start at 11 a.m. and go through 12 p.m. at the R.C. Fire Hall. The ride starts at 12:30 p.m. and goes seven miles to Adams Legion where there will be chili and refreshments available. A free will donation will be collected at both places, and all proceeds will go toward Paint the Town Pink. 6. Austin Symphony Orchestra: Wild, Wild West

2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Historic Paramount Theatre

The Austin Symphony Orchestra will collaborate with the Galactic Cowboy Orchestra for an afternoon of interesting music. The cost for adults is $15, and k-12 students are free.

7. Mower County Humane Society annual pasta dinner

4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Holiday Inn

The Mower County Humane Society will host its annual pasta dinner/silent-live auction at the Holiday Inn on Feb. 22 starting at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or at Double K Specialty or the shelter. Tickets are $10, and $4 for kids 8-years-old and under.
