The No. 7 ranked Lyle-Pacelli girls basketball team got everyone involved in a lop-sided 70-10 win over Glenville-Emmons (0-7 overall, 0-7 SEC) in Pacelli Gym Monday.

No LP player scored more than 12 points in the win, 10 different players scored for LP and seven of those players had at least six points.

“We were definitely really invested in getting everybody the ball,” said LP junior guard Courtney Walter, who had seven points, four assists and three steals. “We don’t want it to just be about the first five starters. We want everyone to be involved and we don’t want anyone to feel like they’re not part of the team.”

LP freshman Brooke Walter had 12 points, three assists and five steals, senior Madison Truckenmiller had 12 points and eight rebounds, junior Sarah Holtz had 11 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Bethany Strouf had six points, three rebounds and three steals.

LP head coach Justin Morris said he likes to get a lot of players in the game so he can get a feel for who can help out the squad later in in the season and it also helps build the future of LP’s girls basketball program.

“We want to have as balanced as an attack as we possibly can,” Morris said. “We had an opportunity in a game like this to give some kids an opportunity to build their confidence from an offensive standpoint.”

The Athletics are coming off a big week where they beat Hastings and lost 90-89 to Maranatha Christian Academy. Those games have helped the Athletics focus a little harder on improving as a team.

“I think it opened our kids’ eyes as far as what’s out there in terms of other talented teams,” Morris said. “So many of the games we play in our conference are blowouts.”

Monday was another one of those blowouts for LP, which is out-scoring its opponents on average of 72.8-39 per game. But that doesn’t mean the Athletics can just show up and sleep walk through games.

The Athletics (10-1 overall, 9-0 SEC) scored the first 19 points on Monday and they allowed just one field goal in the first half. The team played with a lot of energy, despite having a big lead early.

“If we’re not all ready to play and ready to work hard, it brings everybody down,” Courtney said.
