James David Mills, 92, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester – Saint Marys Campus.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Clear Lake, South Dakota, to Ross David and Hazel L. (Davis) Mills. During his youth, he lived in Clear Lake, South Dakota, and later moved to Austin, Minnesota. Jim served his country in the United States Army from Nov. 9, 1944, until his honorable discharge in March 1946. He was married to Lucille Mills and they later divorced. Jim made his living as an over-the-road trucker throughout the United States for all of his working life. On March 16, 1977, he married Rose (Haley) Schumacher. Jim and Rose lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and in Salt Lake City, Utah, for several years. They moved to Blooming Prairie in July of 1990. Jim retired at the age of 80 in 2002. He loved his vegetable gardening and he fixed bicycles for the kids.

Survivors include his wife Rose Mills of Blooming Prairie; five daughters, one son; sister-in-law Lucille Mills of Austin; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Hazel Mills; his daughter Hazel; his son Lester James in infancy; and his brother Art Mills.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, with the Rev. Jack Heidenreich officiating.
