Austin police are still investigating an early morning stabbing that took place in northeast Austin last Friday.

Police Capt. Dave McKichan said officers were still interviewing witnesses to a stabbing at 4:45 a.m. Friday at the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue Northeast that left a 51-year-old man with one or two stab wounds to the orso.

The victim was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, and ultimately to Mayo Clinic Hospital — St. Marys Campus in Rochester. McKichan said it appeared the victim was improving and police hoped to interview him soon.

No arrests have been made thus far, but police are determining who was at the home at the time. Officers said the stabbing wasn’t a domestic-related incident, and McKichan said the stabbing doesn’t appear to be a random occurrence.
