Thomas “Phil” Hegge, 82, of Rose Creek, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Phil was born in Grand Meadow on April 11, 1932, to Arthur and Hazel (Halstead ) Hegge. He attended school and graduated from Rose Creek High School in 1950. On May 12, 1951, Phil married Joan Bloom at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek.

Phil owned and operated a Standard Oil station from 1963 to 1984. He then worked as a salesman for Stroup Distributing from 1984 to 1987. Phil purchased the liquor store in 1987 and then retired in 1994. He worked part-time at Dave’s Plumbing and Heating in Rose Creek.

Phil was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek and a member of the Rose Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He liked being a people person. Phil loved horses, camping, giving rides on his horse drawn wagon and having his family over on Sunday afternoons.

Phil is survived by his wife Joan of Rose Creek; daughters: Sandi (Tom) Gilson of Rose Creek, Debbie (Kim) Anderson of Adams, Linda (Craig) Hessenius of Rochester; sons: Randy Hegge of Mantorville, Joe Hegge of Rose Creek, Brian (Dana) Hegge of Austin; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Jack (Lucille) Hegge of North Branch, Minnesota, LaVonne Srock of Austin, Katherine (Ralph) McClaflin of Byron, and Darlene Reed of Austin.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Vernon Hegge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin and again on Friday starting an hour prior to services.
