Abang Oman Deng was charged with simple robbery last week after she allegedly entered the Maytag Laundromat and asked a 22-year-old Austin woman who was doing laundry for a cigarette. The victim didn’t have any cigarettes, so Deng reportedly asked for money.

According to a court complaint, the victim held out a handful of change and said, “This is all I have.”

The victim had $2.96 in change — 11 quarters, three nickels and six pennies — which the suspect allegedly took. Frightening the victim, the suspect asked her if she had more money and reportedly said, “You have more. Go to your car. I’m not playing.”

The victim went to her car, locked herself inside and called police. After speaking with the victim, who was still in her car, police arrested the suspect, who was still in the laundromat, and brought her to the Mower County Jail. Police recovered the $2.96 allegedly taken by Deng and returned it to the victim.

A simple robbery carries a max penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine, according to state statutes.
