Mayo welcomes new providers

Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin recently welcomed Dr. Julie Adams and Dr. Emily Nguyen to Austin’s Orthopedic department.

Adams is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training and certification in surgery of the hand. She specializes in surgical and non-surgical treatment of disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow, including: fractures and dislocations of the hand, wrist, elbow; tendon and nerve injuries; compressive and traumatic nerve conditions; microvascular surgery; arthritis of the hand, wrist and elbow; reconstructive surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow, including arthroscopy and arthroplasty; and treatment of developmental and congenital hand differences.

She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and pursued subspecialty training at the Philadelphia Hand Center and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She served as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in the Twin Cities from 2008 to 2014.

Adams was recently recognized in the October issue of Minnesota Monthly as one of the best hand surgeons in the state. She is the current President of the Minnesota Orthopedic Society.

Nguyen specializes in adult spine surgery in the treatment of degenerative conditions of the spine such as herniated discs and spinal stenosis, including minimally invasive spine surgery and motion sparring techniques, which allows the surgeon to treat the spinal condition in ways that would not prohibit normal spinal movement, such as disc replacement.

Nguyen received her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. She completed both an orthopedic surgery residency and an orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
