LEROY — The Superlarks lost their first three matches to LeRoy-Ostrander this season, but that didn’t stop them from walking into LeRoy with confidence in a Section 1A West play-in match in LeRoy Monday.

No. 9 seeded Grand Meadow (12-18 overall) got off to a fast start and it cruised to win the match by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 21-25, 25-8 to keep its season alive against the No. 8 seeded Cardinals.

“The fourth time’s a charm this time,” GM senior libero Rachel Oehlke said. “We knew almost every thing they do after playing them three times and we were pretty confident.”

Oehlke had 18 digs in the win and GM junior Rio Landers had 19 kills.

The Larks jumped out to a 20-6 in the first game and they led the second game 16-5 early. The Cardinals (9-15 overall) played a solid third game, but GM bounced back in the final game as it opened with an 8-2 lead and it led 20-5 late.

LO was a led by Sam Siskow, who had nine kills and Abi Winkels, who had 11 kills.

GM head coach Tori Lind said her squad was able to play well because it cut back on the missed serves Monday.

“We did not want to lose a fourth [time to L-O] and the girls were ready to play tonight. They’re a rival and we knew what they were going to be doing,” Lind said.

Oehlke said the Larks used the last few days to focus on the mental aspect of the game and she felt like that paid off on Monday.
