Evelyn B. ‘Evie’ Anderson, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at the Cedars of Austin.

Evelyn Belle Showers was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Adams County, Iowa, to Carl and Claudine (Parrish) Showers. After her graduation from Corning High School in 1949, Evelyn attended business school in Omaha, Nebraska, where she received her secretarial certificate. She continued her education by taking accounting classes, all while raising five children as a single parent. Evie was employed by Dubinsky’s, Weyerhaeuser, and worked at the Hormel Corporate office for 13 years. She then moved to the Twin Cities area and continued her career working in various secretarial/accounting positions, returning to Austin in the spring of 2010. Evie was a great volunteer. As an active member of the Mower County Senior Center, she developed “Exercise with Evie,” the exercise program there, and was a Semcac volunteer. She also volunteered at the Red Cross, the Senior Center front desk, and at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Survivors include her children Edwin Lutz of Rochester, Barbara (Steve) Eichhorn of Stockholm, Wisconsin, Joni (Chuck) Hughes of Conifer, Colorado, and Jay (Kelly Rush) Lutz of Austin; five grandchildren, Lisa (Jamie) Schoaf, Nathan (Sonja) Meyer, Judd Lutz, Christopher (Victoria) Lutz, and Sean Lutz; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Meyer, Jr., Jonathon Schoaf, Sophie Meyer, Samantha Meyer, and Chloe Meyer; a sister Marcia O’Dell of Jacksonville, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Claudine Showers; and her son Justin (Lynn) in 1981.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
