Jim Jayes, the magician and puppeteer, will offer a different form of art at the Artworks Festival this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. in the kids area, Jayes will perform using his puppets and magic skills. But just because he’s in performing in an area intended for children, doesn’t mean adults won’t enjoy the show.

“It’s not just for kids,” Jayes said.

Jayes will bring marionettes, a complex puppet controlled by multiple strings, that he has worked with for more than 20 years.

“When kids are saying ‘That’s funny,’ the adults are asking ‘How are you doing that? Jayes explained. “It’s a lot harder than normal puppets.”

Jayes performed at the Artworks Festival last year and is looking forward to his appearance this weekend.

“I like that [the festival] exposes kids to all different kinds of art,” Jayes said.
