Best Bets: Grooving into the weekend

This weekend is filled with events to get moving to. With concerts, two 5Ks and dancing, there’s sure to be something to get the groove on.

1. Lucky Las Vegas Dance

2. Cruising into Austin

10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Spam Museum, 1101 N Main St, Austin, and Hormel Historic Home, 208 Fourth Ave. NW, Austin,

A group of Willys-Overland Jeepsters will stop at the Spam Museum at 10 a.m. before eating lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hormel Historic Home. The Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau invited the public to stop out and check out the jeep tour.

3. Color Dash

Registration at 7 a.m., race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Downtown Austin Power Plant, 400 Fourth St. NE, Austin

Enjoy a blast of color while participating in the second annual Color Dash 5K run/walk, hosted by the Austin ArtWorks Festival, Vision 2020 and The Hormel Institute. For more information or to register, go to www.thecolordash5k.com.

4. Get Winded for Willie

Registration from 8:30 to 9 a.m., race at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, 412 W Main Street, Adams

Southland senior McKenzie Kirtz organized a 5K to raise funds for Willie Noterman, her autistic neighbor who is in Chileda, a program in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, that costs $300 a day — costs the state of Minnesota won’t cover since it’s in Wisconsin. Money will help the Noterman family with the costs of the placement.

5. Owl Always Love You

10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Austin ArtWorks Center, 300 N. Main St., Austin

Family Time Paint will make painting easy and exciting for you and your children/grandchildren. Attendees will be instructed step by step in recreating the diptych acrylic painting. The diptych includes two canvases that go together so it is best to have an even number in a group. At the end of class, attendees will have finished works of art to display at home. 6. BAM ride

12:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Mower County Fairgrounds, 700 12th St SW, Austin,

The Bicycling Around Minnesota tour passing through LeRoy Friday and Austin Saturday may be full, but the public can still stop out, chat with the bicyclists and take in some of the entertainment. In Austin, the riders should arrive between 12:30 and 3 p.m. Saturday, and they’ll be able to tour Austin attractions. Reminisce will perform at the fairgrounds from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., dinner will be at 5:30 a.m., and Addition II will perform at 7 p.m. There will also be lawn games and other activities Saturday night. The riders will eat breakfast and have a nondenominational blessing before leaving town on Sunday.

7. Remembering Elvis

7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N Broadway Ave., Albert Lea

The DC Drifters and special guest Terry Kline, from Las Vegas, will perform Elvis Presley’s music and tell of his life on the 37th anniversary of his death.

8. Sola Fide Viewing

9 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sola Fide Observatory, 180th St., Austin

9. Dave Anderson and Roger Walck Concert

7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1200 13th Ave. NW, Austin

Dave and Roger’s music is a blend of contemporary, gospel, hymns, and lots of old-time Sunday School songs. The audience will be invited to sing along.
