Two Austin residents received scrapes after a motorcycle accident involving deer Monday.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said a 52-year-old Austin man and his 10-year-old grandson refused a Gold Cross Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System after deer hit the motorcycle they rode on a little after 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The two were eastbound on Oakland Avenue East just past Fourth Street when about four or five deer jumped onto the roadway from a nearby pasture. One of the deer hit the motorcycle’s front tire, which caused the 52-year-old to lose control of the vehicle.

The 52-year-old’s left arm was scraped, while the 10-year-old had scrapes on his left and right arm, according to Krueger. Both went to the hospital by a private vehicle and the motorcycle was driven out of the area.

The 10-year-old was wearing a helmet, Krueger said, but the 52-year-old rode without one.
