The Austin Port Authority approved a $488,000 bid from Ulland Bros. during a special meeting Monday to build The Hormel Institute parking lot.

The move comes as construction efforts for the Institute ramp up, and after the Minnesota Legislature put in language for the Institute to use state bonding funds for the parking lot during the 2014 legislative session.

Construction is expected to start later this month, once Institute officials get access to funding.
