Blooming Prairie freshman Tommy Braaten played like a veteran in the second day of the Class A state golf meet in Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn. Wednesday.

Braaten shot an 83 on Wednesday, which gave him a two-day total score of 163. Braaten finished tied for 14th place overall with three other golfers.

“The first round I probably played my best round of golf I’ve played this year,” Braaten said. “I hit the ball real good and I was methodically thinking my way around the course. My second round wasn’t as good.”

Braaten wasn’t expecting to be in the running to finish high, but he still felt the nerves early on during his first day at state.

“The first hole I was surprisingly nervous, because I didn’t think I’d have a shot at winning,” he said. “But I was actually shaking on it. After that it was pretty smooth.”

Braaten is now motivated to work harder in the summer to improve his golf game.

“Now I have the confidence that I can actually hang in there with these better golfers,” he said.

BP senior Victor Peterson shot an 85 for the second straight day and he finished with a 170, which put him in 31st play with four other golfers.
