Best Bets: Austin ready to get out for good causes

This weekend is filled with things that will make you move. From walking to dancing, Austin will be grooving for good causes.

1. The power of Zumba

3 to 8 p.m. Austin Municipal Airport, 710 21st St. NE. Advance tickets $15 at Hy-Vee or $20 at the door, it is free to shop and bid.

There will be a fundraiser for the Relay for Life today at the airport. A boutique sale will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., a silent auction from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Zumbathon 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be free refreshments and lots of door prizes to be given away throughout the night. 2. Walk or Run

8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday. Austin YMCA, 704 First Dr NW. $25 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K.

The 14th annual YMCA 5K run/walk is a fitness activity that’s geared toward the entire family, as runners, walkers and strollers are all welcome. Pets, bicycles and roller skates are prohibited. For more information, call 507-433-1804.

3. Junk or Jewels?

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. See Page 11 of today’s Herald for a map of the sales.

Saturday is the perfect time to hunt for treasure around Austin during the citywide rummage sales from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Watch for bright signs. The sales are held during National Tourism Week.

4. Grand March

6:30 p.m. SaturdayAustin High School’s Knowlton Auditorium 301 Third St NW

Austin High School’s 2014 Grand March will be in the Knowlton Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Prom will follow, and goes until 11:30 p.m.

5. Walk for a Cause

1 p.m. on Sunday East Side Lake Park at 8th Ave. and Oakland Place NE.

Austin has yet another opportunity to get out for a good cause Sunday. Participants can choose one- or three-mile routes in a walk to benefit MS, a disease that affects thousands.
