Letter: Use common sense when discussing street

Published 8:51 am Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Concerning the issue of vacating the street of Third Avenue Northwest between Fourth and Fifth streets. I hope those in charge give this issue very careful consideration before acting on it. To close those streets for one day is quite different from closing it forever. When to the best of my knowledge, other options have not been pursued. For only a few hours a day? What about when there is no school or during the summer months? And I feel it should not be done without some stipulation or thought to that aspect.

This was tried before some years back when fourth street was closed between Austin High and the Annex so the students could cross and go into the Annex. It turned into a mess and had to be abandoned. Let’s hope common sense prevails before rushing into something that cannot be undone and history repeats itself.
