Everett Dale Goodwin, 84, of Austin, Minn., passed away March 8, 2014, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Ev was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Blooming Prairie, Minn., to Knut and Emma (Lerum) Goodwin. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea in the early 1950s and when he returned home, he worked for the Hormel Foods Corp. where he was employed for 39 years. Ev married Sylvia Thompson in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 10, 1983.

Ev loved to play his guitar and listen to music. He and Sylvia very much enjoyed traveling, visiting children east and west, and wintering in Palm Springs, Calif..

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eldora and Edna and his brother Kenneth.

Ev is survived by his wife, Sylvia Goodwin, of Austin; his four children: Daniel Goodwin, of Manhattan, N.Y.; Debra Goodwin (Errol Thybulle), of Irvington, N.Y.; Tamera (John) Coelho, of Basking Ridge, N.J.; Melanie (Daniel) Austin, of Rosemount, Minn.; Sylvia’s four children: Kim (Mark) Corkill, of Austin; Deb (Steve) Goodew, of Austin; Brad Thompson (Liz Thissen), of Lansing, Minn.; Jeff (Ella) Thompson, of Littleton, Colo.; their grandchildren: Jason, Jessica and Joshua Corkill, Emma Kate and Natalie Austin, Luke Goodew, Sidney and Gracie Thybulle, Jack Coelho, and Isabelle and Lily Thompson; great grandson: Jackson Corkill; sister: Glendora Arens, Austin, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at First Congregational Church with Rev. Shari Mason officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Austin Post 91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Everett will be remembered by all for his wonderful sense of humor and his gentle determination. He was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather and he will be greatly missed!
