The No. 8 seeded Lyle-Pacelli boys basketball team had its season end on a 56-42 loss to No. 1 Goodhue (17-10 overall) in the Section 1A West quarterfinals on the road Saturday.

LP (9-17 overall) trailed by double digits early and it couldn’t close the gap, even as it hung around with the Wildcats.

“We really tried to muck the game up a little bit and keep the score low. Unfortunately we couldn’t score a lot,” LP head coach Dean DeBoer said. “You’re going there to win the game or you might as well not go. For us to keep it close hopefully gives us confidence towards next year. We have a good nucleus coming back.”

LP brings back all five of its starters next season.

LP 14 28 — 42

Goodhue 28 28 — 56

LP scoring: Noah Jiskra, 14; Mark Manyuon, 8; Jordan Hart, 7; Jordan Cotter, 6; Braden Kocer, 5; Brennen Ruis, 2; free throws: 63 percent (5-for-8)
