It may be below zero outside, but there’s another tanning option in town.

Sun Tan City opened on Jan. 16 in Austin at a new strip mall just south of the Walmart parking lot, 1004 18th Ave. NW Suite B.

The tanning store, with 16 rooms, will offer five different UV levels for customers, along with a sunless, spray tan. The store also sells tanning products, nail polish, purses and other items, according to Sun Tan City regional manager Kayla Brimeyer.

“Austin has been great,” said Brimeyer, adding that they offered a special to their first 100 members, which they reached in four days.

The first phase of construction on the strip mall started in October 2013. The building is about 4,200 square feet, and will also house AT&T authorized retailer Pro Cellular and another tenant.

The second phase, which is scheduled to start spring 2014, will add about 9,000 square feet and as many as four more tenants, according to Pat Flynn, with the strip mall developer.

Sun Tan City has more than 200 locations in 16 states, according to its website, suntancity.com.

It’s open in Austin 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call the store at 507-433-7303.
