Hormel Foods Corp. will hold its stockholders annual meeting at 7:50 p.m. tonight in Knowlton Auditorium at Austin High School. The meeting is open to Hormel stockholders.

Austin-based Hormel will complete routine annual business, and its executives will present on their successes of 2013, and their plans for this fiscal year.

The company’s leaders are expected to talk about, among other topics, their international sales, which increased by 38 percent from 2012 to 2013. Hormel has made a concerted effort to sell Spam, Skippy and other products into South Korea, China and other Asian markets.

Spam celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012, and the company increased the brand’s marketing presence to help lead strong sales in Hormel’s grocery and international divisions. In January 2013 the company acquired Skippy peanut butter from Unilever for $700 million, which also brought a projected $100 million annually in international sales, including $30 to $40 million in China. Now Hormel hopes those two products mean continued growth in its international division, which while increasing, only accounted for 9 percent of its operating profit in 2013.

“When we compare ourselves to other food manufactures within our industry, we’re really quite low in terms of our sales outside the United States,” Hormel CEO Jeff Ettinger said at last year’s stockholder meeting, before the company’s international sales jumped from $89.4 million in 2012 to $123.3 million last year. “We’ve said we’d really like to increase that.”
