Two stolen guns are off the streets, and a suspect is in the Mower County jail after Austin police made an arrest Wednesday morning.

Officers noticed suspicious activity in a vehicle in northwest Austin just after 3 a.m. and approached. According to the police report, a 19-year-old man was carrying a .22-caliber pistol, and a  9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol was in plain sight.

Officers later discovered the .22 had been reported stolen from a rural Adams residence in fall 2013. Officers arrested the 19-year-old, and cited a 16-year-old girl for possession of drug paraphernalia. The girl was released to her parents.

When officers returned the .22 pistol to the owner, the owner then discovered he was missing the Smith and Wesson as well, but had never known it was gone.

The suspect awaits formal charges in Mower County Court.
