An area arts group is looking to clarify its role in the face of an identity crisis.

The Austin Area Commission for the Arts is launching a new website, www.austinareaarts.org, on Monday as part of a plan to help the public better understand the commission’s role and goals.

“We’re going to continue to work to solidify our identity,” Executive Director Jennie Knoebel said.

Knoebel and commissioner leaders are responding to some public feedback, where people voiced confusion about what the Austin Area Commission for the Arts does in the community.

The Austin Area Commission for the Arts is the umbrella organization that runs the Paramount Theatre, the Austin ArtWorks Festival, and it will manage the ArtWorks Center, which is set to open during the third annual ArtWork Festival Aug. 23 and 24.

“It will help us be more unified,” she said.

The websites for the Paramount Theatre and Austin Area ArtWorks Festival will be pulled into www.austinareaarts.org. The commission will continue operating the urls www.paramounttheatre.org and www.austinartworksfestival.org, but those sites will bring users to the www.austinareaarts.org site.

Along with the new website, the Austin Area Commission for the Arts has also unveiled new logos for the Paramount, and the commission designed to match the ArtWorks Festival logo.
