Cost, who moved to Austin in 2012, was inducted into the Kansas State University Athletics Hall of Fame in October. Cost was the first volleyball player ever to to be voted into KSU’s Hall of Fame in October.

“t was kind of crazy and it was not expected,” Cost said. “To get the letter was kind of overwhelming. There were so many good players before me and for them to pick me was really incredible.”

Cost, who played middle blocker, was named Big 12 player of the year in her senior year at KSU in 2003 and the Wildcats won the conference that season. She finished with 1,212 career kills.

Cost, who is originally from Fort Worth, Tex., is now the mother of three and she said raising kids is harder than it was to play Division I volleyball.

“(Playing volleyball) did not prepare me. Having kids is a lot harder for me,” Cost said. “Volleyball was pretty natural for me. Having kids is another story, but they’re awesome. It keeps me very busy.”

Cost is still able to compete by playing in four-on-four volleyball leagues in Austin. She said it’s hard to compete when she’s not in the same shape she used to be, but she still has fun doing it.

Cost was able to make it to the Division I level in volleyball because she loved the sport and spent as much time as she could getting better at it.

“How much you put in during practice is how much you’re going to get out of it,” she said. “I was very devoted because I loved it and I didn’t do a whole lot of things outside of the sport.”
