Funeral services for Dorothy M. Orke will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Rev Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Dorothy Marie Jensen was born Jan. 8, 1917, near LeRoy, Minn. She was the daughter of Johannes and Ruby (Murphy) Jensen. She passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at the Adams Health Care Center at the age of 96.

Dorothy attended school through the eighth grade and remained in the Chester, Iowa, and LeRoy areas. On June 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to Norman Orke. Together they operated a dairy and crop farm north of LeRoy until Norman’s death in 1995. They were the parents of four children. In addition to her duties as a mother and homemaker, Dorothy was also a successful “Avon lady” for 40 years.

Dorothy served as a 4-H leader for many years. She also enjoyed playing “500” and bingo and was excellent at embroidery, making many items for friends and family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, especially known for her lefse and other Scandinavian delicacies.

Dorothy is survived by three children, Janice (David) Sween, of Pine Island, Minn.; Bruce Orke, of LeRoy; and Craig Orke, of Sioux Falls, S.D. as well as eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Joseph Jensen of Albert Lea and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, David Orke and brothers Francis Jensen, Bill Jensen and Ralph Jensen and sister Ella Mussel.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by friends and family.
