Dorothy Ann (Wimmer) Mallan, 86, of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Sacred Heart Care Center.


Dorothy was born March 22, 1927, in Adams, Minn., to John and Genevieve (Studer) Wimmer. She grew up in Adams and married Henry Mallan in 1949. They resided in Austin, Minn., where they were members of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Dorothy was a homemaker and the mother of 11 children.

Dorothy retired from Austin Public Schools were she was a teacher’s aide for children with disabilities. She was inducted into the Third Order of the Franciscans and devoted much of her time serving the community and volunteered at many charitable organizations including the Salvation Army and Sacred Heart Care Center. She enjoyed many bus trips throughout the country with friends and family.

Survivors include 10 children, Robert (Donna) Mallan, Rochester, Minn.; Steven Mallan, Austin; Catherine Andreotti (Larry Vigesaa), St. Paul, Minn.; Roger Mallan, Austin; Kevin Mallan, Austin; Duane (Betty) Mallan, Austin; Virginia Mallan, Mason City, Iowa, Michael (Sandra) Mallan, Austin; Thomas Mallan, Austin; Theresa (Patrick) O’Connor, St. Paul; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Leonora (Clare) Nelson, Oceanside, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; daughter, LaVonne Mallan; great grandson, Aidan Neria-Lowell; parents, John and Genevieve Wimmer; sisters, Maureen “Evelyn” (Harold) Wright and Jeanette (Edward) Weitzel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
