Summer has taken a turn toward hot and humid in Mower County and much of southeast Minnesota.

With temperatures hovering in the upper 80s and low 90s through Friday, the National Weather Service is warning humid conditions will bring heat indices up to 95 to 100 degrees.

The weather service urges caution for the rest of the week, as the prolonged hot and humid conditions increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for the elderly and those with medical conditions.

The weather service is also warning against leaving children and pets in vehicles, even for a short time.

A cold front is expected to move through the region on Friday, bringing the muggy conditions to an end, but also bringing the chance for thunderstorms.
