Balmy temps, chance for storms to continue through weekend

A line of morning showers and lightning may only be the first batch of storms over the next few days.

The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis., forecasts a chance of storms every day through next Wednesday in Austin.

Storms moved through Mower County this morning, and homeowner Chris Stundahl returned home to find half a tree lying on his house after 5 a.m. He suspects high winds broke the large branch, which only caused minimal damage to the siding.

NWS warned of winds of more than 50 mph near and west of Rochester. However, the bulk of the storms were tracking north near the Twin Cites and St. Cloud.

After a break in the weather, storms are possible late this afternoon and this evening. Another warm, muggy day is also expected, with highs in the upper 80s and a heat index in the low 90s.

The balmy weather may continue with highs near 90 on Saturday and consistently in the upper 80s through Wednesday.

With the warm, muggy conditions, the chance for storms will only grow, according to NWS.
