Austin Municipal Swimming Pool nearing 2013 season opening

Get ready for summer at the pool.

The Austin Municipal Pool will open at 1 p.m. on June 10. Parks and Rec offers a $10 discount for those who sign up for lessons and a membership at the same time, according to Parks and Rec director Kim Underwood. People will no longer buy tags for memberships, as the pool is switching to a name registry to keep track of members. There will also be a 10-week Saturday swim lessons program for those who can’t make it on weekdays.

At the end of the summer, even pooches can take a dive. The Doggie Dip will invite Austin dog owners to bring their canines along.

The event is scheduled to run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23, after the pool’s regular season end date of Aug. 18. Parks and Rec workers hoped to keep the pool open to the public until Aug. 22, but the pool would likely close to everyone but dog owners Aug. 23.
