Austin Community Band kicks off summer concerts

Austin’s summer is about to turn musical.

The Austin Community Band begins its string of summer concerts at 7 p.m. tomorrow with a performance at Bandshell Park.

This year’s performances include songs from “Finnegan’s Rainbow,” “Porgy and Bess” and “Oklahoma,” along with Armed Forces service songs and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

The Austin Community Band performs again at 7 p.m. June 16 and 26 at Bandshell Park. The band then moves to the Hormel Historic Home for a 6:30 p.m. on July 1 and July 4.

The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, the Austin Area Foundation and the city of Austin’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department sponsor the summer band concerts.

•June 26, 7 p.m., at the Bandshell Park. Free ice cream to first 125 in the audience

•July 1, 6:30 p.m., at the Hormel Historic Home

•July 4, 6:30 p.m., at the Bandshell Park
