Funds being sought for Bud Higgins’ sign

It’s already been decided that former Austin swimming coach Bud Higgins will have the swimming pool in Ellis Middle School named after him.

Now the funds for the sign must be raised.

Jim Fisher and Dick Lees are looking to raise the estimated cost of $1,000 to buy and put the sign up in Ellis Middle School.

Fisher and Lees are hoping that former Austin swimmers can step forward to donate and they encourage anyone from the community to donate.

“He’s had a distinguished career and he’s been a driving force behind the Ellis pool,” Fisher said.

Any one interested in donating can call Fisher at 507-219-1646 or call Lees at 507-433-2606.

Higgins coached the Packers from 1960-1981, while leading them to four Big Nine championships and a career dual record of 141-94-3.
