Austin’s home sales drop again

The number of local homes sold dropped again last month, as local Realtors say there are fewer houses on the market.

There were 24 Austin homes sold in April, a 31 percent drop from 35 in April 2012, according to data released this week by the Southeast Minnesota Association of Realtors. That continues the yearly trend, as there have been 92 homes sold since Jan. 1, down 16 percent from 110 during that same span last year.

“The number of listed properties seems to be decreasing slightly when compared to the same time last year,” said the Realtor association’s president, Jim Anderson, about southeastern Minnesota.

There have been 341 new listings this year, down 6.3 percent from 364 last year.

In Owatonna, sales are up 1.3 percent, and sales are down 12 percent in Winona/Goodview. Homes sales are up 7 percent in Albert Lea.

The 92 homes sold in Austin this year are more than the 86 in Winona/Goodview, the 80 in Owatonna, and the 61 in Albert Lea.
