Langtry Cafe in Brownsdale always had a bit of a Western theme, but now that’s accentuated on Thursdays.

Owner Steve Nagel has hosted two permit to carry courses at his restaurant with instructor Gregory Reis, and now he’s passing the savings onto those who proudly support the Second Amendment. Every Thursday, those who conceal carry get 15 percent off, and those who open carry get 25 percent off.

“It was kind of a tongue-in-cheek situation that really took off,” Nagel said.

Nagel considered having a permit to carry course at his restaurant several weeks ago, and the word spread like wildfire.

Eighty people have attended Reis’ classes at Langtry over the past few weeks, and another is set for May 4.

“Cheryl [Steve’s wife] and I are strong supporters of the Second Amendment, and so are most of my customers,” Nagel said.

While the idea may seem a little strange, Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said the business move is legal, and the owners can do so if they choose. Amazi noted there has still been an influx of permit to carry applications in her office.

“I’ve got a stack of about 10 on my desk right now,” she said Friday morning.

As of last week, Mower County had issued 535 permits to carry since the November elections.
