Paramount joining in the pink fun

Austin has been painted pink for our annual celebration Paint the Town Pink to raise money for cancer research at The Hormel Institute.

With last year’s success, the event has been extended to a full week of pinktastic activities.

The Historic Paramount Theatre is joining in to support this great cause by presenting the coming-of-age 1986 classic “Pretty in Pink” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Directed by John Hughes, the movie features 80’s icon Molly Ringwald as Andie, Andy McCarthy as Blane, and “Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer as Duckie. Although the movie takes place in the 80s, its tale of teenage romance is timeless. Andie is one of the not-so-popular girls in high school.

Despite social pressure from friends, she suddenly becomes the love interest of Blane, one of the rich and popular guys at school. Andie’s good friend Duckie, who has been secretly in love with her since childhood, also has issues with the budding romance. Come to the Paramount on Friday to find out if this young love will survive.

The film also features several hit songs including “If You Leave” by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and the title song “Pretty in Pink” by The Psychedelic Furs, which was the inspiration for the film. Tickets for the movie are only $5 and can be purchased online at paramounttheatre.org or at the Paramount Box Office.

Kathi Finley has graciously offered to sponsor the movie’s presentation so all the box office revenue will go to support cancer research. We are also inviting everyone to wear pink 80’s attire to add to the fun. Visit austincvb.com for the most up to date information on all the Paint the Town Pink events.
