Hockey: Packer boys fall to Rockets

Austin's Pat Wagner is challenged from behind by Rochester John Marshall's Jake Dravis as he tries to come back to the puck during the second period Thursday night at Riverside Arena.

The Packer boys hockey team had a rough night in a 9-2 loss to Rochester John Marshall in Riverside Arena Thursday.

The Packers had beaten a shorthanded JM team (12-12 overall, 11-6 Big Nine) 3-2 on Jan. 12, but the Rockets have now won seven in a row.

“We knew what to expect. They’ve won nine of ten,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “The first time we played them like we wanted to win. We played like we didn’t want to win and our defensive zone needs work. We weren’t picking guys up in front of the net.”

Austin (7-15-1 overall, 3-12 Big Nine) fell behind 3-0 in the first period and JM added four more goals in the third period to put it way out of reach.

“It seemed like we were focused before we started,” LaRock said. “As the game went on, if we don’t get the first goal we get down. We’ve got to learn more positive and we just stopped playing the game.”

Marcus Stoulil and Dan Larson scored goals in the loss for the Packers.
