A suspect who allegedly pointed a shotgun at a woman in Austin on Jan. 13 pleaded not guilty to two charges Thursday in Mower County Court.

Terry Lee Morgan, 58, of Austin, denied felony charges for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and terroristic threats.

Police arrested Morgan in Mapleview Sunday night, Jan. 13, after the victim called police. The victim, who knows the suspect, said she had not seen the man in several days. However, the victim awoke Sunday at her home in Austin to Morgan pointing a shotgun at her face, saying he was going to kill her, according to the court complaint.

The report adds the victim pushed the barrel of the gun away; however, the suspect again pointed it at her. The woman said Morgan “looked crazy,” and she feared he would kill her.

Morgan reportedly left the house in a red car after the woman managed to call police at about 1:30 p.m. Police arrested Morgan in the 100 block of Graham Street in Mapleview without further incident.

According to the court complaint, Morgan showed them where he had placed the single-shot, .410 shotgun, which was loaded with birdshot, under a wheelbarrow in the yard.

Morgan’s pretrial is May 3.
