ROCHESTER — The Hayfield girls basketball team couldn’t close out Rochester Lourdes (5-12 overall, 2-4 HVL Gold) in a 61-60 loss in overtime on the road Friday.

The Vikings (11-6 overall, 4-2 HVL Gold) missed five of their six free throws down the stretch and Lourdes eventually tied it up and forced overtime when Katie Helt hit two free throws.

“This one hurts bad,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “We still control our own fate in the conference though.”

Lourdes knocked down 9-for-14 3-pointers and Hayfield’s Abby Pollock left the game with an injury at halftime.

Hayfield had a chance to tie the game at the end of overtime but it missed a three and scored a two-pointer on a put-back.
