ROCHESTER — The Packers gave the top boys hockey team in the Big Nine a run for their money, but they ultimately fell short by a score of 4-1 at Rochester Mayo Thursday.

Austin (5-9-1 overall, 2-6 Big Nine) pulled to within 2-1 early in the third when Tony Baudler scored on an assist from Ethan Larson. But the Spartans (14-4 overall, 9-0 Big Nine) had a quick answer as they scored two goals in the next two minutes.

“We played very well defensively,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “A couple of mistakes cost us in the third period.”

Austin goalie Rainer Londino-Green kept his team in the game with 45 saves.

“Mayo’s very fast and very deep and we got a great game out of Rainer,” LaRock said.
