Austin grad Goliath Oboyo had one of his better games of the season as the Riverland Community College men’s basketball team rolled past Fond Du Lac 84-59 in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

Oboyo, a freshman who has been starting for the past few games, filled the box score with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Blue Devils (4-4 overall).

Riverland's TJ Adams tries to come down with a rebound in the first half Wednesday night against Fond Du Lac at RCC.

“Oboyo’s been playing real well,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “He just seems to keep improving and with some time in the weight room he could be an 18 point per game guy next season. He really picks stuff up quick.”

Besides racking up stats, Oboyo also did some other things like having the nerve to stand under the hoop to take a charge when a Fond Du Lac player went up for a big dunk, and his defensive pressure helped RCC force 28 turnovers.

“I’m still adjusting to it,” Oboyo said. “It’s way faster and I’ve got to get stronger so I can finish, because they don’t call as many fouls at this level.”

Oboyo saw his opportunity for minutes when RCC lost Brandon Kowalski and Ruben Williams for the season to injuries earlier this season and he took full advantage.

“People have got to step up when that happens,” Oboyo said. “I was working hard in practice and it showed.”

RCC trailed Fond Du Lac by 18 points in a 63-56 win last week, but they never trailed Wednesday night.

Marcus Ratliff poured in 22 points and Andrew Lau added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

“We played a lot better. We had a little more flow and we went to the basket,” Koenigs said.
