The Austin Police Department, in conjunction with other agencies across the state, is stepping up its DWI enforcement in December.

Local officers are working extra shifts on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout December. According to Police Capt. Dave McKichan, officers already found a high number of DWIs during their first weekend of the campaign. Officers made five arrests in the city and one in the county on Saturday alone. They made nine total arrests during the weekend.
