Snow caused multiple crashes on area roads throughout Tuesday.

After flurries last night, snow picked up Tuesday morning, with at least four car crashes reported in a 20-minute span.

One occurred on Interstate 90 west of the 11th Drive Northeast exit in Austin at about 9:20 a.m. Another took place on County Road 8, one mile south of Grand Meadow. A third happened at County Road 7 between Adams and Johnsburg. And a woman reported going into the ditch in a four-lane road in Mower County after she hit another vehicle. These crashes were all reported between 9:20 and 9:40 a.m.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi did not have a total number of crashes or people involved as of Tuesday afternoon, as her deputies were still working on reports.

“It was just one after another,” Amazi said.

Reports of other crashes kept trickling in the early afternoon, as well. Amazi said there were some non life-threatening injuries, but names have not been released. Some of the crashes were related, too, as Amazi mentioned people following too closely and driving too fast.

The National Weather Service originally called for less than an inch of snow before noon Tuesday, but the forecast later changed to 2 to 3 inches because of a thin line of heavy snow that moved along the Iowa-Minnesota border this morning.

NWS meteorologists say Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy, and temperatures will drop from a high of 32 to a low of 20 degrees. Residents can expect more snow Wednesday night into Thursday, with NWS meteorologists calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
