Phillips honored as Packer bowlers come up short in conference tournament

ROCHESTER — The Austin bowling team lost its second match at the conference tournament in Rochester Saturday and the Packers will now have to play in the Minnesota Qualifying Tournament Nov. 17 in Dayton for a chance to get to state.

The Packers beat Hayfield in three games, but fell to eventual tournament champ Rochester John Marshall in four games.

Austin’s Kody Phillips was named to the All-State, All-Star first team with the second highest fill rate (92.5 percent) of all high school bowlers in Minnesota.

Phillips was also named conference MVP and was on the all conference team, along with his teammates Collin Bailey and Lucas Hegna.
