Robert Wesley Newman, 64, of Austin, died at Golden Living Center in Franklin, Minnesota Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012.

He was born March 9, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota to William Byron and Ardis Naomi (Skauge) Newman. He married Linda Marie Darrah on Feb. 22, 1986, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Austin. After attending Austin schools, Robert did roofing and painting. He worked at the food shelf until his health failed. He moved to Golden Living Center at Franklin in March of this year. Besides volunteering at the Salvation Army, Robert enjoyed fishing, spending time with his kids and grandkids, watching sports, especially boxing and wrestling, and also the Sci-Fi Channel.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Newman of Austin; two children, Jodie (Erin) Mohan of Winona; Jamie (Bruce Hackensmith) Darrah of Austin; five grandchildren, Sydney, Evan and Aidan Mohan; Whitney King and Josef Darrah; his mother, Ardis Newman of Austin; three brothers, William, Dennis and Ronald Newman of Austin; two sisters, Dorothy Newman and Barbara (Ronald) Johnson of Austin. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, William B. Newman and his dear friend, Squeaky.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Austin with Lt. Laura Amick officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the Salvation Army. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com
