COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. — Police say the woman shot and killed by her husband in the parking lot of a Cottage Grove strip mall had previously expressed fear that he would harm her.

Public safety director Craig Woolery said Friday Tensia Richard thought there might be a “snapping point” for her estranged husband. The mother of two sons, ages 3 and 5 months, had filed for divorce and was living with her children at her parents’ house in Cottage Grove.

Woolery says Chevel Richard chased Tensia into a Jimmy John’s sandwich shop Thursday afternoon and fatally shot her, then shot himself in the head. He died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
