Edward George Fisch, 86, died Sept. 6, 2012.

Edward was born July 31, 1926, to Dr. Herbert Mathias Fisch Sr. and Eleanor Teresa McDonald Fisch. His father delivered him at the family’s home at 611 W Bridge St. in Austin, Minn. In his early years, Edward worked as an usher at the State Theater, lifeguard at the city pool and employee at the Hormel Foods plant.

On June 17, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A year later, he graduated from Austin High School, and was later honorably discharged from the U.S. military. On May 26, 1951, he graduated from Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine with a degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. He later became board certified to practice podiatry in Texas by the State Board of Chiropody Examiners.

On April 26, 1952, Edward married Deloris Coleen Ellis of Marshalltown, Iowa, at St. Austin’s Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.

Edward had a number of professional distinctions. He was a founding member of the Pioneer Foot Research Society, a fellow of the Academy of Ambulatory Foot Surgeons, a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, a member of the Texas State Board of Podiatry Examiners, a member and past president of the Texas Podiatry Association and a recipient of their Distinguished Service Award. He was also an associate of the American College of Foot Surgeons, a member and past president of the Travis County Podiatric Medical Society and was recognized for over 40 years of distinguished service to the profession. Edward Retired from the podiatry practice in November 1997.

In his free time, he loved tennis, hunting, sailing, basketball, football and especially golf. He was a percussionist in the Austin High School Band and played drums (trap set) in his own swing band, the Austin High Hats. His love of music also included singing in a barbershop quartet and chorus and a mixed quartet called the Swing Singers that specialized in Swing Era tunes a la Glenn Miller and the Modernaires. He and Deloris (Dee) loved to travel and visited Canada, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, China, Japan, New Zealand, Italy, France, England, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Czechoslovakia and much of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Ed truly enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is survived by his spouse Deloris Coleen Ellis Fisch, of Austin, Texas, with whom he shared over 60 years of wedded bliss; children Matthew (Denise) Fisch of Cedar Park, Texas, and Mark (Lisa) Fisch of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Kathryn (Devin) Posey of Leander, Texas, and Emily Fisch of Cedar Park; great-grandchildren Ethan, Madison and Gavin Posey of Leander, Texas; sisters Barbara Fisch Gower of Dayton, Ohio, Neenie Fisch Jeffers (Jim) of Raymond, Neb., and Mary Jo Fisch Comstock (Jim) of El Cajon, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. & Mrs. H. M. Fisch Sr.; brother, Dr. Herbert M. Fisch Jr.; and sister, Patricia Fisch Laughlin; brothers-in-law, Jack Gower, John Laughlin, Tony De Mars; and niece, Barbara Jon Gower Ellinger.

Graveside services will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, Minn., at the Fisch family plot on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m.
