Tuesday was a swan song for the Austin High School class of 2012.

The annual Senior Walk marked the last day of school for AHS seniors, who will graduate this Friday.

AHS seniors are cheered on by younger students at the annual Senior Walk Tuesday.

“I feel exuberant and overwhelmed,” said Alex Mueller, who appeared giddy and excited after school Tuesday. Mueller will attend college at Marquette University this fall.

Many AHS seniors reflected on their time spent in Austin and the education they received.

“I know that probably a month from now I’ll be sad,” said Domingo Ramirez, who will attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities this fall. “I’ll think about my friends and how great this place has been.”

Of course, graduation is both an exhilarating and scary time for seniors looking at the possibilities their lives hold.

“[I’m] scared for what’s going to happen, but excited,” said Brittany Hopkins, who will attend Riverland Community College this fall.

Yet this year’s seniors have much to remember, according to AHS Principal Brad Bergstrom.

“This was a group that really did things as a team,” said Bergstrom, whose oldest daughter, Breanna, will graduate Friday.

From the AHS Student Union raising money for Sumner Elementary field trips to the boys basketball, dance team and gymnastics state runs, AHS students accomplished much during their time here, according to Bergstrom.

“This was a good group of kids,” he said.
