Enjoy the victory

Congratulations to the Packers girls basketball team, which continued Austin’s resurgent year in basketball by notching a 67-58 win on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday night was the girls’ first post-season victory in several years. Led by Babaye Oja’s 31 points, the Packers knocked off Waseca and earned a second Section 1AAA game, a tough match-up against Red Wing on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the boys prepared for a battle with Owatonna on Friday night that could give them sole ownership of the Big 9 conference crown. Regardless of that game’s outcome, the Packer boys stand poised to make a run in the 1AAA tournament and perhaps beyond.

There have been quite a few years when Austin was on the outside looking in at other schools’ basketball success. It’s nice to have a year when the hard-working student athletes and their coaches — along with the fans — are able to enjoy some success.
