VERO BEACH, FLA. — The Riverland baseball team beat Pro Teach Academy of Canada 6-1 and knocked off Montgomery-Rockville, Md. 20-5 in Vero Beach Fla. Monday.

Kyle Gorsuch, a freshman from Rapid City, S.D., struck out seven in five scoreless innings and Eric Sandstrom, a freshman from Wabasha-Kellogg, struck out four while allowing one run in two innings as the Blue Devils (2-1 overall) took down Pro Teach Academy.

“The pitchers did a nice job of throwing strikes and they kept hitters off-balanced,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said.

In the win over RM, the Blue Devil pitchers walked a total eight hitters, but the Blue Devil batters drew 16 walks themselves.

RCC trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, where it scored three runs and it added 11 runs in the fifth.

“When they went to their bull-pen, they had all kinds of problems throwing strikes,” Koenigs said. “They couldn’t find the plate and we took advantage of it.”

Tyler Krekling, a freshman from Hayfield, picked up his first college hit on Monday as he finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and two walks on the day.

RCC will return to action when it plays the Ontario Blue Jays and Dakota College Bottineau Wednesday.

“We’ve got to play a lot better if we want to keep winning, because it’s gonna get a lot tougher,” Koenigs said.
