The Austin Blue Sox are looking to play for a good cause when they host the Austin Athletics this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Marcusen Park.

The game will be called Bats vs. Cancer and it will be used to raise money for Relay for Life. The festivities kick-off when Jerry Wilkinson, president of Team Believe of Relay for Life, will throw the first pitch out.

“We had an opportunity to help out a good cause and we’re hoping to get some nice weather and a lot of people,” Blue Sox player/manager Josh Kunze said.

The Athletics play in the 25-and-over league but they may bring some of the better players from other teams in that league to make it a good game.

“It will be an official game and we’re hoping to have a good, competitive game,” Kunze said.

The Blue Sox (1-8 overall) will wear pink during pre-game warm-ups.

The rest of the day’s events will look very similar to the Blue Sox’s fan appreciation days of the past. There will be a raffle during the game which includes a Mall of America gift package, tickets to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and Bruins merchandise.

River Oaks golf club will have a chip-in contest during the game and kids games will be held in between innings.

Admission for the game is free.
