The Austin boys soccer team showed some guts when they pulled off a 4-4 tie in overtime at Owatonna Tuesday.

Senior Rolando Rubio chipped a corner kick off an Owatonna defender and into the goal to tie the game up at four with three minutes left in the second overtime.

“It was a good kick, Rolando used his left foot to curve it and we got a good deflection of their defender at the near post,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said.

The Huskies (0-1-1 overall. 0-0-1 Big Nine) had scored three minutes into the first five-minute overtime to take a 4-3 lead and they scored with 50 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session.

“The guys really showed a lot of heart tonight and we played as a team,” Levisen said. “We didn’t want to accept a loss after playing the way we had and this is good as we’ve done against Owatonna in awhile.”

Noe Garcia-Marquez put the Packers (0-1-1 overall, 0-0-1 Big Nine) up 3-2 with eight minutes left in the game. Pedro Herrera and Jake Hagen-Erickson also scored goals for Austin, which attempted 18 shots on goal.

Chaz Kieffer had an assist on the night.
